About the Fellowship
The Hudson Valley Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Fellowship offers a one-year training program covering all aspects of reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, serving the lower Hudson Valley region of New York.
Training Goals
Upon completion of the program, the fellow will have gained the knowledge and ability to diagnose and manage difficult and complicated foot and ankle pathologies. Graduates are prepared to achieve board certification in Foot Surgery as well as Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery.
Clinical Experience
The Fellow participates in advanced and complicated foot and ankle surgeries alongside Fellowship Director Dr. Todd Stewart and a team of attending physicians. The fellow attends outpatient clinics in the office and wound care center, actively participating in differential diagnosis, critical review of imaging, and surgical planning.
Mentorship & Scope
The Fellow is introduced to all aspects of reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, learning under the auspice of the Fellowship Director along with attending physicians who assist in training, lecturing, and mentoring throughout the year. The program is recognized by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).
Clinical Leadership & Algorithmic Design
Beyond technical proficiency, the fellowship cultivates the intellectual framework required to lead complex, multi-stage care and shape the protocols that guide it.
- Longitudinal CareFellows manage the patient journey from initial consultation through complex surgical intervention to final rehabilitation, gaining a comprehensive understanding of long-term outcomes.
- Advanced Protocol DevelopmentFellows will collaborate on developing surgical algorithms and clinical protocols for Orthoplastics, Limb Salvage, and Complex Reconstructive Sports Medicine.
- Case Complexity & SynthesisTraining focuses on the intellectual framework required to tackle ‘salvage-level’ cases that require multi-stage planning and cross-disciplinary techniques.
